What Fence Sense does with your data, in plain language.

Fence Sense is developed by Katelyn & Audrey Dong. It's a small, independent app built to help fencers and their families prepare for pools and track results at competitions.
Fence Sense stores the following directly on your device, using Apple's on-device database (SwiftData). None of it is transmitted to us — we don't operate a server that receives it.

Uninstalling the app deletes all of this. You can also delete individual fencers, events, or bouts at any time from within the app.
To scan a membership card, Fence Sense uses Apple's built-in photo picker (PhotosPicker). This gives the app access to only the exact photo you select — never your full photo library, and iOS never asks for broader permission on our behalf.
The photo, and any name, membership number, or expiration date read from it, are stored locally with that fencer's profile. Text extraction runs entirely on your device via Apple's Vision framework — the image is not sent to us or to any third party for this.
Fence Sense talks to two outside services, only when you ask it to, and only over encrypted connections:
To import a pool sheet or seeding list, Fence Sense opens an embedded, in-app browser to fencingtimelive.com and asks you to log in as you normally would. Your username and password go directly to FencingTimeLive — Fence Sense never sees or stores them. We only read the page you're already viewing (the roster, bout order, or seeding table) to save it into your pool.
If you tap "Load Background" on an opponent, Fence Sense sends that opponent's name and club to fencingtracker.com, a public fencing-results lookup site, to fetch their rating and recent results. This sends the opponent's name — never anything about you or your device.
Neither service is controlled by us; each has its own privacy practices, which we'd encourage you to review on their sites.
Fence Sense contains no analytics SDKs, crash reporters, advertising networks, or third-party trackers of any kind. We don't know how many people use the app, what they tap, or anything else about usage — because nothing reports it back to us.
We don't sell, rent, or share your data, because we don't have it — it never leaves your device except for the two lookups described above, which you trigger yourself.
Fence Sense is often used by young competitive fencers, tracked on a parent's or their own device. Since the app has no account system or server, we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age — everything stays local to the device it's entered on. A parent managing a young fencer's profile has full control over that data through the app itself (editing or deleting it at any time).
Your data is protected by iOS's standard app sandboxing, which keeps it isolated from other apps on your device. All network connections the app makes are required to use HTTPS (enforced via App Transport Security) — there are no unencrypted connections.
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above and post the revised version at this same address.
